Is any type of prior technical training required?

Depending on each mountain the type of training for each person varies. We always start from scratch with mountains that do not require a special technical level, but it works as you progress and gain more technical experience to achieve your goals.

Is it necessary to have any experience?

No, the experience is acquired little by little from the hand of us and your goals. Within our acclimatization programs we offer you to start from scratch, without any experience, so you can climb any summit. In addition, your physical condition can gradually improve with all our activities.

How important is acclimatization?

For the high mountains, acclimatization is of vital importance to avoid what we call “altitude sickness”. What we try is to provide an excellent acclimatization prior to the ascent of any mountain above 5000m/16404ft.

What is the best season for mountaineering in Ecuador?

The whole year is good for mountaineering in Ecuador. However, the weather varies weekly, and it depends a lot on how lucky we are that day for the ascent.

Is the necessary equipment for your ascents and programs included?

Totally, we provide you all the mountain equipment required that includes: mountaineering boots, crampons, harness, helmet, ice axe, carabiners and shared equipment. In addition, all personal clothing information can be found in the page of each program.

Do you do personalized tours?

Mauna Expeditions does carry out personalized tours that are adapted to your availability and objectives. We adjust to your time so that you can enjoy the privilege that nature offers us alone or in company.

What types of guides will accompany us on the climbs?

Mauna Expeditions always protects the safety of each one of you. Therefore, all our mountain guides have ASEGUIM/UIAGM certification.

What goals do the guides have?

A certified guide is a professional who is dedicated to the development and organization of all activities in relation to different areas of the mountain. Likewise, our team of guides performs different training and teaching tasks so that you can do it in the mountains, so you will be able to correctly develop the different activities such as: climbing, hiking, among others.

Are plane tickets included in the costs?

Mauna Expedition does not include plane tickets in any of our programs.

What are the risks in the mountains?

We can prepare ourselves in the best possible way and with all the necessary equipment, but always be aware that we are practicing risky sports.

Mauna always fully respects nature and makes the best decisions to ensure the safety of its community.

If I am traveling alone, can I join to any adventure?

Of course! The Mauna Expeditions Community has several organized climbing programs so that you can join and meet people at a national or international level. Or in turn, if you require a private tour, we take care of scheduling a program according to your needs.

Are they very physically or psychologically demanding activities?

Depending on the activity that you decide to choose. Since we have family activities that you do not need a higher level of demand, since they are activities to enjoy in harmony. Meanwhile, we have mountaineering activities that require physical and mental preparation.
