Fuya Fuya is a 4290m high extinct volcano that is located 85km (53mi) north of Quito. Its name comes from the Kichwa Fuyu which means “cloud”, because its peaks are normally covered in condensed clouds. It is a fairly common mountain to start in the world of mountaineering and trekking, plus it is excellent to start gaining acclimatization to climb other high mountains such as Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Antisana or Chimborazo. The most common route is to cross a steep grassland, cross through a part segmented by volcanic rock that does not require any type of technical level to finally reach the summit. From the summit you will be able to contemplate the most imposing mountains in the north of Ecuador such as Cayambe, Cotacachi and Imbabura as well as the old caldera where the Lagunas de Mojanda are now located with approximately 3.2km (2mi) in diameter. On this adventure to Fuya Fuya you will have the opportunity to take fantastic photographs, enjoy a great day of hiking and appreciating the Andes mountain range up close with its biodiverse ecosystem.
There are two main routes to reach the base of the Laguna Grande de Mojanda and start the hike. The first entrance is through Tabacundo, where we will need a 4×4 car to ascend to the top of the lagoons, then we will descend again to the base of Laguna Grande. The second entrance is made through the town of Otavalo, where we will have a path suitable for any vehicle, the difference is that by this path we arrive directly at the beginning of the route to the summit. The ascent is not very long but it is quite steep, which will make us gain a lot of height in a short time. This climb is normally done in one day and every 4 passengers will have an ASEGUIM/UIAGM certified guide. If you travel alone, the ascent will be carried out only by the certified guide with the passenger. Come to live this incredible experience touring the Andes of Ecuador and reach the summit of this beautiful mountain surrounded by incredible peaks and lagoons.

The level of difficulty of the program is demanding and there is nothing that interests us more than your safety and that you enjoy our program without any external problem.
