Iliniza Norte 2 day climb is one of the best acclimatization training to climb to the high mountains of the country. The Ilinizas are a mountain range formed by 2 main peaks (North and South) with a maximum altitude of 5246m. They are located to the west of the Cotopaxi National Park and are perfect for gaining acclimatization above 5000m, which makes them highly visited mountains. Iliniza Norte 2 day climb is a perfect mountain and quite common to finish acclimatization to climb to the high mountains such as Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Antisana or Chimborazo, in addition, it is excellent to lose fear in rocky terrain. The landscapes offered while doing the Iliniza Norte 2 day climb are very varied, from wide grasslands to steep walls of volcanic rock that will make us enjoy this ascent like no other.
The most common route for this excursion is via El Chaupi, where we will start our hike at almost 4000m high. The route is perfect to go and enjoy the moors that Ecuador has along with an incredible view of the surrounding volcanoes such as Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and many more. The path is not so signposted and we will have quite a positive difference in level throughout the journey. This climb is normally done in one day, but for acclimatizarion training this climb is made in 2 days and every four passengers will have a certified mountain guide. DAY 1: Ascent to the Nuevos Horizontes Refuge
Altitude: 4750m/15583ft
We will pick you up from your hotel or place of your choice at 10h00 in our private transport. We will have a trip of an hour and a half until we reach el Chaupi where we will have lunch (included). After another 15 minutes we will arrive at Los Ilinizas Ecological Reserve where we will register. We will continue our trip to the parking lot of La Virgen 30 minutes above the entrance and we will walk for about two hours to the Nuevos Horizontes Refuge where we will settle in our places and proceed to enjoy the incredible landscape and give some brief safety instructions just before dinner. We will have a delicious dinner around 19h00 and then we will prepare our things for the ascent. We will sleep at approximately 20h30.
DAY 2: Iliniza Norte Summit Climb
Altitude: 5126m/16817ft
We will get up at 04h00 to drink some tea and eat something light. Our climb begins at 05h00 where a walk of approximately 2 hours awaits us to the summit. Around 07h00, just with sunrise, we will be reaching the summit of this incredible mountain where we will be able to appreciate its amazing landscapes and the neighboring volcanoes such as Iliniza Sur, Cotopaxi, Antisana, Corazón and many more. After approximately 30 minutes at the summit, depending on the weather conditions, we will begin the descent that will take about an hour and a half. We will arrive at the refuge again where we will have a delicious breakfast and we will get our things ready to start the descent towards the La Virgen parking lot where our private transport will be waiting for us to return to the city of Quito where we will finally leave you at your hotel or place of your choice.
MOUNTAIN EQUIPMENT (INCLUDED):

CLOTHING REQUIRED (NOT INCLUDED):
Three layers of clothing for the legs and torso:
• Base layer: Thermal clothing for body and pants (usually made of synthetic material).
• Second layer: Warm jacket and pants, preferably water repellent (goose down, fleece or polar type).
• Third layer: Waterproof jacket and pants (in case of rain).
• An extra thermal or jacket (in case of extreme cold).
• Backpack between 25L and 35L.
• Gloves.
• Factor 4 sunglasses (with UV protection).
• Buff.
• Thick socks.
• Sunscreen.
In case you do not have something from the list of personal clothing, Mauna Expeditions can provide you with the rental or sale of said accessories.

PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION OF THE PROGRAM
To book the ‘Iliniza Norte 2 day climb’ tour, Mauna Expeditions requires a payment of 25% of the cost of the program. Full payment must be made up to a maximum of two weeks before the start date of the tour. We do not send vouchers or confirmation messages until full payment for the program is made. Our team reserves the right to cancel the tour if the full payment is not made until the start date of the program.
The Mauna Expeditions team has put a lot of effort into organizing your program. Therefore, any cancellation must be made at least 21 days in advance. After 21 days, Mauna Expeditions may make a 50% refund depending on the cause of cancellation. Any cancellation notified less than 21 days from the start date of the program will be charged a penalty of 100% of the value of the program.
COSTS
Costs vary depending on the size of the group. A minimum of 1 person and a maximum of 24 people are required to make the ascent. For costs information please CONTACT US.
RECOMENDATIONS
Mountaineering is a high-risk sport, where we are exposed to conditions on extreme occasions. We do not recommend doing this activity for people with asthma or some kind of heart condition. The level of difficulty of the program is demanding and there is nothing that interests us more than your safety and that you enjoy our program without any external problem.

El ascenso a la cima de los Ilinizas es una de las expediciones más populares en Ecuador. La cumbre norte es la octava montaña más alta del Ecuador con 5126m (16817ft). Se encuentra ubicada al oeste del Parque Nacional Cotopaxi en la Reserva Ecológica los Ilinizas a 60km/37mi al sur de Quito. Esta reserva constituye uno de los principales sitios para la conservación de la biodiversidad. Para ascender a esta montaña no se necesita experiencia técnica previa, pero si es importante estar en buena condición física.
La cumbre del Iliniza ofrece vistas increíbles, sus paisajes rocosos harán que te quedes asombrado, al igual que los increíbles amaneceres con las ciudades iluminadas en el fondo. También se pueden avistar los volcanes vecinos tales como el Cayambe, Iliniza Sur, Cotopaxi, Corazón, Chimborazo y muchas más. El ascenso es muy popular entre los mochileros, montañistas experimentados y personas aventureras que quiera vivir esta experiencia sin igual.
El ascenso se puede realizar en un día, pero si quieres vivir la magia de ver los amaneceres en los Andes ecuatorianos, además de ganar aclimatación al dormir a más de 4500m esta es una experiencia increíble. Para esta expedición de dos días, cada dos pasajeros tendrán un guía certificado ASEGUIM/UIAGM. Si se viaja en solitario, el ascenso se realizará solamente el guía certificado con el pasajero. DÍA 1: Ascenso al refugio Nuevos Horizontes en Los Ilinizas
Altura: 4750m/15583ft
Les recogeremos del hotel de su preferencia a las 10h00 en nuestro transporte privado. Tendremos un viaje de una hora y media hasta llegar al Chaupi donde tendremos un almuerzo (incluido). Luego de otros 15 minutos llegaremos a la Reserva Ecológica Los Ilinizas donde haremos el registro de ingreso. Continuaremos nuestro viaje hasta el parqueadero de La Virgen 30 minutos más arriba del ingreso y caminaremos alrededor de dos horas hasta el Refugio Nuevos Horizontes donde nos acomodaremos en nuestros lugares y procederemos a disfrutar del increíble paisaje y dar unas breves instrucciones de seguridad justo antes de cenar. Tendremos una deliciosa cena alrededor de las 19h00 y luego prepararemos nuestras cosas para el ascenso. Dormiremos aproximadamente a las 20h30.
DÍA 2: Ascenso al volcán Iliniza Norte

Nos levantaremos a las 4am para tomar té y comer algo ligero. Nuestro ascenso inicia a las 05h00 donde nos espera una caminata de aproximadamente 2 horas hasta la cumbre. Alrededor de las 07h00 justo con el amanecer, estaremos llegando a la cumbre de esta increíble montaña donde podremos apreciar sus asombrosos paisajes y los volcanes vecinos tales como el Iliniza Sur, Cotopaxi, Antisana, Corazón y muchos más. Después de 30 minutos en la cumbre aproximadamente, dependiendo las condiciones climáticas, empezaremos el descenso que nos tomará cerca de una hora y media. Llegaremos al refugio nuevamente donde tendremos un delicioso desayuno y alistaremos nuestras cosas para iniciar el descenso hacia el parqueadero de La Virgen donde nuestro transporte privado nos estará esperando para el retorno a la ciudad de Quito donde les dejaremos finalmente en su hotel de preferencia.
EQUIPO DE MONTAÑA (INCLUIDO):
- Casco.
- Arnés.
- Equipo compartido (cuerda, mosquetones, cordinos, equipo de ascenso y descenso).
VESTIMENTA PERSONAL (NO INCLUIDO):
Tres capas de vestimenta para las piernas y el torso:
• Primera capa: Buzo y pantalón dryfit (tipo licra, secado rápido).
• Segunda capa: Chaqueta y pantalón abrigado preferiblemente repelente al agua (Tipo fleece o polar).
• Tercera capa: Chaqueta y pantalón impermeable.
• Un buzo o chompa extra (en caso de extremo frio).
• Mochila entre 25L y 35L.
• Guantes preferiblemente gruesos.
• Gafas factor 4 (con protección UV).
• Buff o gorro térmico.
• Medias gruesas.
• Protector solar.
En caso de no tener algo de la lista de vestimenta personal o equipo, Mauna Expeditions les podrá facilitar con el alquiler o venta de dichos accesorios.

PAGO Y CANCELACIÓN DEL PROGRAMA
Para reservar el tour, Mauna Expeditions requiere un abono del 25% del costo del programa. El pago completo debe estar realizado hasta máximo dos semanas antes de la fecha de inicio del tour. No enviamos voucher ni mensajes de confirmación hasta que el pago completo del programa este realizado. Nuestro equipo se reserva el derecho a cancelar el tour si el pago completo no esta efectivizado hasta la fecha de inicio del programa.
El equipo de Mauna Expeditions ha puesto mucho esfuerzo en organizar su programa. Por lo tanto, cualquier cancelación debe ser realizada con mínimo 21 días de anticipación. Pasados los 21 días, Mauna Expeditions podrá hacer un reembolso del 50% dependiendo la causa de cancelación. Cualquier cancelación avisada con menos de 21 días a la fecha de inicio del programa, se cobrará una penalidad del 100% del valor del programa.

RECOMENDACIONES
El montañismo es un deporte de alto riesgo, donde nos exponemos a condiciones en ocasiones extremas. No recomendamos realizar esta actividad a personas asmáticas o con algún tipo de problema cardiaco. El nivel de dificultad del programa es demandante y no hay nada que nos interese más que su seguridad y que disfruten de nuestro programa sin ningún problema externo.
