Altitude: 4873m / 15987ft
Distance: 16km / 10mi
Duration: 1 Day
Date: All Year
Sincholagua is a 4873m high mountain. It is located east of the Cotopaxi National Park, 17km from the Cotopaxi volcano. It is a perfect mountain to gain acclimatization over 4000m but its access is somewhat complicated, so it is not a mountain that is visited by novice climbers. The summit is easy to do in one day and will test your abilities to ascend and descend on rocky terrain. Also, it is a fairly common mountain to finish acclimatization to climb other high mountains such as Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Antisana or Chimborazo, in addition to being excellent for losing fear of rock climbing. The landscapes offered by this mountain are very varied, from wide grasslands to steep walls of volcanic rock that will make us enjoy this climb like no other.
The most common route for this excursion is via El Pedregal, where we will start our trek at almost 4000m high. The route is perfect to go and enjoy the moors that Ecuador has along with an incredible view of the surrounding volcanoes, mainly Cotopaxi. The path is not very marked and we will have quite a positive difference in level throughout the journey. In the final part we will have a rock climb 26 meters high and we will descend rappelling, all under the control of our guides. This climb is normally done in one day and every four passengers will have an ASEGUIM/UIAGM certified guide. If you travel alone, the ascent will be carried out only by the certified guide with the passenger. Come to live this incredible experience touring the Andes of Ecuador and reach the summit of this beautiful mountain with us.
DAY 1: Sincholagua’s Summit Climb
We will pick you up from your hotel or place of your choice at 06h00 where we will have a one and a half hour trip in our private transport until we reach the entrance of Pedregal where we will begin our climb. We will give some brief safety instructions before starting and approximately 4 hours later, after crossing some beautiful grasslands, climbing a sandy area and climbing a bit on rock, we will reach the summit of the Sincholagua volcano where we will enjoy approximately 30 minutes depending on weather conditions and we will see the neighboring giant volcanoes such as Cotopaxi, Antisana, Ilinizas, Rumiñahui and many more. We will do the initial descent from the summit rappelling and the final descent will take us approximately two and a half hours until our return transportation. The return trip to Quito takes approximately an hour and a half, so we will make a stop on the way to have lunch before leaving you again at the starting point at your hotel or place of choice.

Mountaineering is a high-risk sport, where we are exposed to conditions on extreme occasions. We do not recommend doing this activity for people with asthma or some kind of heart condition. The level of difficulty of the program is demanding and there is nothing that interests us more than your safety and that you enjoy our program without any external problem.
